SPOTTED SLOW ART EXPERIENCE
A simple act of looking at art has endless potential to benefit us in ways that are intricate and profound. SPOTTED invites you to join its Slow Art Experience, where, together, we will uncover that potential.
WHAT TO EXPECT ?
This isn’t a typical art tour ; it’s a powerful experience of shared looking, thinking, talking, and reflecting on selected works of art as we visit art galleries and museums in Shanghai. Carefully calibrated and research-driven questions, purposefully chosen thinking exercises, and art-viewing approaches are specifically paired with the artworks we will be exploring during our experience, making it not just more enjoyable, but also transformative for how we navigate everyday situations.
WHY JOIN ?
The goal and mission behind the creation of SPOTTED Slow Art Experiences is not to provide facts and background information on artworks, artists, artistic styles, or techniques, but to improve the quality of our lives and daily interactions, level up our professional performance, keep our senses and wits sharp, get our neurons firing, and increase our brain-processing speed—affecting every function of our body. This experience will help us practice the fine art of observation, perception, and effective communication, improve creative and critical thinking, and allow us to see opportunities and possibilities where others don’t. It will also enhance concentration, focus, productivity, and overall well-being.
Slowing down in front of a single artwork for a prolonged period acts as a buffer against the overwhelming speed and constant distractions of modern life. Details, patterns, and relationships take time to register—nuances and new information can be missed if we rush past them.
The exercises with art we practice during our sessions can alter the way you observe the world. You’ll see color, light, detail, and opportunity where you once thought there were none. You’ll find life and possibility in the emptiest spaces. You’ll discover order and answers in the most chaotic and messy places. You will never see the same way again.
WHY ART IS SO GREAT ?
Art gives us myriad opportunities to analyze complex situations as well as seemingly more straightforward ones. It manifests themes of human nature in all their complexity and often makes us uncomfortable. Surprisingly, discomfort and uncertainty bring out the best in our brains.
In 1908, Harvard psychologist William James discovered that the brain is most effective at learning new material when stress hormones are slightly elevated by novel experiences, a theory later verified by modern brain imaging.
Therefore, the best way to rethink something we’ve been doing for years—the way we do our jobs, interact with others, or see the world—is to step outside of ourselves and outside of our comfort zones.
Art, from the seemingly ordinary to the most unsettling pieces, transports us away from our everyday life and challenges the way we see, perceive, and communicate. Art inspires conversations, especially when it makes us squirm, and the beauty of it is that anyone can discuss it.

The venue will be communicated at least 72h before the event.
